Year 34

Yesterday was my birthday.  I turned 34-yrs old.  I had a pretty good day.  Slept late.  Got a birthday phone call from my Mom.  Then, a video call from my younger brother.  I got to see my niece and nephew, although I sometimes think they are more amused with seeing themselves on the screen than talking to me.  After that, I walked around town for a while. I visited the various Saturday morning farmer markets and just did some people watching.

Then, I headed out for a run.  I skipped my normal run and tried instead to run up Mt. Sentinel to the “M”.  I wasn’t able to do it all in one shot.  I had to stop every other switchback to catch my breath.  Apparently being able to run long distances does not directly correlate to being able to run up steep hills.  I plan to keep trying.

After returning home and showering, I put on some music and relaxed for a bit.  I ended up dozing off and taking a short nap.  When I woke up, I went to Taco del Sol for dinner and had a taco salad.  I love salads where you can eat the bowl after devouring the salad inside it.

That evening, I head up into the North Hills to spend some time shooting with my Canon 17mm tilt-shift lens that I bought a few months ago.  The images below are a few from the evening.  It’s an incredible lens.  Really, incredible.  I can’t believe how sharp the images are and I’m comparing it to the Canon 24-105mm f/4L and 70-200 f/2.8L which are pretty amazing in their own right.  I’m going to love this lens.

I stayed up in the hills until after sunset and then walked home.  Despite the fact it was already 10:30pm, I decided to watch a movie.  I wasn’t tired yet, probably because of my afternoon nap.  I watched “The Red Baron” on Netflix.  It was okay.

I started a new project yesterday.  A few years ago, I tried to do a 365 project where I took a self-portrait everyday.  I made it 90 days before giving it up due to time constraints caused by, ironically enough, photography school.  This year, I’m not doing self portraits, but I’m going to try and take at least one picture a day.  Most will probably be taken with my cell phone, which I almost always have with me.  I’ve discovered that my Motorola Droid takes pretty decent photos.  With the PicSay Pro and WordPress for Android apps, I can shoot, edit, and post the images entirely from my phone so I really don’t have an excuse for missing a day.  The images will be posted on my Photoblog and on Flickr in the Year 34 set.

As for Year 34, Day 2, I’m about to head off to visit the National Bison Range Wildlife Refuge.  I never visited it the first time I lived in Missoula so I figure it’s about time.
